Madonna gets sued by eight charity workers
The eight workers who went to the court for compensation for unpaid wages were fired after Madonna decided to take in a caretaker panel replacing the board of directors of her Raising Malawi foundation.
Popular singer, Madonna is now the subject of a lawsuit filed by eight workers following her decision not to pursue plans to build school for girls in Malawi.
According to Exposay.com, the eight workers who went to the court for compensation for unpaid wages were fired after Madonna decided to take in a caretaker panel replacing the board of directors of her Raising Malawi foundation.
"Their employment was terminated by the trustees of Raising Malawi Academy for Girls ostensibly following the change of plan not to build the school as planned,” Mzondi Chirambo, the lawyer for the workers was quoted as saying by Exposay.com.
The group is also protesting an agreement they claim they are being forced to sign, added their counsel.
"My clients are also being forced to sign a discriminatory termination agreement before they are paid their benefits,” Chirambo said.
One of the workers who is fighting Madonna in court is Dr.Anjimile Oponyo, the designated CEO of the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls.
"We are claiming unpaid salary and benefits. The workers live here. The court will decide. It's not our policy to comment further," the workers’ counsel said in a statement.
The “Material Girl” hitmaker said Chirambo, is given by the court 14 days to send her reply to the lawsuit.
