Madonna Raunchy Instagram Selfie Of 'Met Gala' Outfit Not Real, 'I Was Just Joking' Madonna Says
The Met Gala held in New York on May 5 brought out stars and artists in their fabulous gowns and suits. Actors and actresses such as Jennifer Lawrence, (named as Sexiest Woman in the World by FHM for 2014) graced the red carpet, and artists such as Beyonce and husband rapper Jay Z. However, amidst all the beautiful stars present at that event, viewers were expecting to see Madonna to also show up at the Gala.
The "Material Girl" superstar was not present at the event and U.S. Vogue editor Anna Wintour is reportedly to blame.
On that same day as the Met Gala, the 55-year old pop diva posted to her Instagram account a picture of what she had wanted to wear to the event.
Madonna posted a raunchy image of herself dressed in what appears to be only bandages covering her body, exposing her breasts and too much skin. Unlike Rihanna, who exposed her breasts on Instagram, the "Like a Virgin" singer placed a "CENSORED" label on the image along her breasts as to not offend Instagram and also to show a bit of modesty.
"What i wanted to wear to Met Ball but Anna said Not this year! So I'm gonna work on music instead? #artforfreedom" reads the caption on the image.
The strappy bondage "ensemble" was rejected by Anna Wintour thus Madonna decided to skip the event and posts selfies instead on her Instagram account (see photo)
Did Madonna post the picture to make Anna feel bad for her absence at the Met Gala? Does Anna Wintour's opinion really matter to Madonna that she opted to skip the event?
Independent reported that this is not the first time Madonna wore something fashionably bold. Last year, the annual Met Gala's theme was punk, and the Grammy-award winning singer walked the red carpet wearing only a black Givenchy tartan studded blazer, wrapped in a studded belt, which a long silver chain was attached and hanging across her thighs. A pair of ripped fishnet tights and bright pink shoes completed her outfit (see photo).
However a source close to the singer told TMZ that Madonna was only joking when she posted the photo, and that she didn't have plans at all to go to the gala, since she was busy making music in the studio Monday night and was expected to be there all week.
So was Madonna only trying to get attention?
"She didn't attend the met ball and still getting that media coverage," TMZ reported.
