Actress Cate Blanchett says that the new character she portrays is anything but a "damsel in distress".

Blanchett plays Lady Marion Loxley in the new Robin Hood epic, along with actors Russell Crowe, who plays Robin Hood, and Prince John played by Oscar Issac.

Blanchett told Andrew Marr from the Cannes film festival that director Ridley Scott wanted the audience to see "a modern standpoint" on the classic tale.

According to her, the film shows similarities between the political mayhem during Robin Hood's era and the present day politics where "overtaxation" and "the collapse of the banking system" are the usual concerns.

The movie is about an archer in the army of Richard Coeur de Lion who fights against Norman invaders.

People who are interested in adventure would definitely enjoy this film.

Robin Hood is now showing in Australia and other parts of the globe. It received a lukewarm reception, earning $37.1 million in its first week. However, Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man 2 still holds the number 1 spot in the box office.
