The relationship between Sports Illustrated Cover Model Kate Upton and Dancing with the Stars Ukranian dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy has always remained in the eye of public interest and numerous media speculations, mainly because Upton and Chmerkovskiy have not been very vocal about it despite the fact that they were often seen together. Upton has always remained tight-lipped every time she was asked about the status of her relationship with Chmerkovskiy.

Upton only confirmed her romantic relationship with the dancer when they were photographed together getting all cuddly and sweet while strolling in New York City. They were first rumoured to be an item in June when the two were seen together having dinner around Upton's birthday.

Upton has not released any official statement though, but Chmerkovskiy has already opened up on Extra TV.

"Kate is an amazing girl, I think I just got lucky," Chmerkovskiy told Extra. "We are both happy and we are enjoying each other's company, things are going great," he added.

Chmerkovskiy also opened up to US Weekly. "She is a great girl and I never really thought that anything romantic like this will happen," said Chmerkovskiy. "I think neither did she," he said.

Upton is a native of Michigan but she was raised in Florida. She eventually moved to New York City when she signed with IMG Models, the world's topmost international model management firm. Reports say that Upton rented an apartment to become closer to Chmerkovskiy. "She got an apartment in Manhattan, I live in New Jersey," Chmerskovskiy said.

Prior to dating Upton, Chmerkovskiy was engaged to Karina Smirnoff, who was also an instructor of Dancing With the Stars until September 2009.
