Male relative of Lin family accused of the high-profile murder
A male relative of the Lin family has been arrested at a home in North Epping and taken to the custody of Parramatta police station.
The man’s arrest today is a result of a two-year-investigation conducted by New South Wales Police. The investigation started right after the discovery of five dead bodies in a house along Boundary St. North Epping, on July 18, 2009.
Police found the bodies of 45-year-old Min Lin and his 43-year-old wife Yun Li "Lillie" Lin, their sons aged 12 and 9, and the woman's 39-year-old sister bashed to death in their beds.
The murder of the family famed for running a local news agency, astounded the community and had drawn about 1,000 mourners to their funeral in August 2009.
Police alleged the man guilty of the murder motivated by greed and jealousy.
Detective Superintendent Peter Cotter said, ''To do something like this is a ... prime evil act. And in modern day terms, I think that equates to money…We are very confident this person acted alone.''
Cotter added the remaining member of the immediate family was surprised by their relative’s arrest.
The man was ''quite stoic'' and was shocked to see police arrive at his house, but he did not defend himself against the arrest. Although the man has long been a suspect of the police, no weapon has been recovered from his possession until this stage of the investigation.
