'Maleficent' Premieres at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood
Violent incident involving a fan attacking Brad Pitt interrupts festivities
Lead star Angelina Jolie and her partner, actor Brad Pitt arrived holding hands at the El Capitan Theatre for the premiere of Disney's new live action film, "Maleficent." The premiere was held on May 28 two days before regular screening will commence on May 30.
A spin-off from Disney's animated feature "Sleeping Beauty." "Maleficent" tells the back story of the villain who put a curse on the beautiful Princess Aurora in a fairytale that is familiar to millions of children worldwide.
Jolie arrived looking sleek in a high ponytail which exposed her sharp features and cheekbones, aspects that made her perfect for the role. Contrary to her sullen character though, Jolie was in good spirits during the premiere and took her time posing for photographs and both she and Brad Pitt signed autographs for the fans who were lined up outside the theatre.
No sign of the Jolie-Pitt brood of six children were seen despite three of them appearing in the movie. 5 year old Vivienne played the young Princess Aurora while Zahara, 9 and Pax 10 played bit roles.
Elle Fanning channelled her inner princess as she walked the red carpet looking very similar to the animated versions of Princess Aurora. She wore a long light blue ball gown which showed off the bejewelled choker she wore above the off-shoulder neckline. The Fanning sisters, Elle and older sister Dakota were recently discovered to have royal blood through their mother and are distant relatives of real-life Princess Kate Middleton.
The premiere started out very well but a small incident marred the festivities as a man rushed Brad Pitt on the Red Carpet and punched him in the face. The man jumped over the protective barriers and attacked the actor. He was quickly accosted by security personnel and led away in handcuffs. Pitt was left unhurt and unfazed by the incident and quickly resumed signing autographs for other fans.
Maleficent is projected to top the weekend's box office sales with a $60 million target.
