'Maleficent' Trailer: There's more than Horns and Thorns to Angelina Jolie's villain [VIDEO]
'If Cruella de Vil is the most evil Disney villain of all time, Maleficent is certainly the most haunting one. Sleeping Beauty's wicked sorceress with the menacing horns was never given the chance to tell her side of the 1959 Disney animated story but the movie Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie will reveal what made her curse the king's daughter.
The trailer for the film even shows Maleficent having a soft spot for Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning). The young lass says during a forest encounter, "I know who you are. You've been watching over me my whole life."
After Maleficent says she's not afraid and Princess Aurora asks her to come out, the villain says, "Then you'll be afraid."
It also shows foreshadowing shots of Aurora tentatively approaching the spinning wheel spindle. The clip seems to be more of a teaser than a full trailer but the last scenes reveal Maleficent's magic green fire mastery, the wall of thorns Prince Philip need to slash through and the villain's echoing evil laugh.
Maleficent opens on May 30 in theaters. The film stars Angelina Jolie (Salt, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Tomb Raider), Sharlto Copley (District 9, Elysium, The A-Team), Elle Fanning (Criminal Minds, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Super 8), Sam Riley (Law & Order, One the Road, Byzantium), Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows, Doctor Who, The Awakening), Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises, Atonement, Killer Joe) and Lesley Manville (Another Year, Vera Drake, A Christmas Carol).
It is produced by Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Huntsman, Oz the Great and Powerful), directed by Robert Stromberg (Pirate of the Caribbean: At World's End, The Hunger Games, Life of Pi) and written by Linda Woolverton (Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan). Angelina Jolie, Don Hahn (Lion King, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Who Framed Roger Rabbit), Matt Smith (Doctor Who, Clone, Gert & Dickie), Palak Patel (Snow White and the Huntsman, Oz the Great and Powerful, Mute) and Sarah Bradshaw (Snow White and the Huntsman, The Fifth Element, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) are executive producers.
