Malibu Police Rules Out Foul Play Pending Toxicology Results in Katie Wilkins’ Death
A 25-year-old woman was found lying dead in the family garage at Malibu, but police autopsy found no evidence of foul play, making the cause of death a complete mystery pending the release of toxicology results.
Katie Wilkins was found dead by her brother on Saturday while their parents were out of town. It was later reported that she was going to host a barbecue party Sunday, but police could not establish whether she had company on the day she died.
Steve Wilkins, Katie's older brother, said it was possible Katie had company who was scared to come forward. He told the press his sister's BMW Z3 was missing when he arrived, and their dog was wandering the streets.
"It looks like someone was there with her, and maybe is scared or doesn't know how to come forward," he told Los Angeles Times.
LA Weekly also reported there was food on the stove and the washing machine was running the day Katie died. She was actively doing some household work, which added mystery to who she was with on that day.
Katie was a graphic designer who had just launched her own business. She went to the Art Institute of California in Orange County and her resume shows she had been hired by several companies, including Citigroup and Morgan Stanley.
Police are clueless as to how Katie died, but they look forward to the results of toxicology tests to at least form theories as to how the tragedy happened.
