"He really wasn't saying much at all - a lot of yelling and screaming," Sgt. Goeff Fox said of the 41 year old Ohio man who ripped part of his genital after consuming the hallucinogenic mushrooms he got from a friend.

Last Tuesday morning, the deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff office found the man naked and bloodied. The discovery came after the authorities who responded to a burglar alarm at the Ypsilanti Middle School in Michigan, saw the man with the ripped penis kneeling outside.

"We've sent his blood off for further analysis to see if there was anything else, if the mushrooms could have been laced with something," noted Fox.

The man who mutilated his own penis appears to have no existing records of mental health problems though. He has not been found guilty of using drugs before.

He was rushed to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for treatment.

Spokesman Derrick Jackson of the Sherrif's office gave an update that the man, who almost died of self mutilation during a drug-fuelled craze, is now at the University of Michigan Health System.

"In terms of vital signs, they were as low as they could go without being dead - I could only assume due to the blood loss and the shock and trauma to the body," Fox was quoted as saying.

Concrete details of the treatments were not revealed though the man is said to be on the process of recovery from the incident.

Hallucinogenic mushrooms, according to the web site of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, can alter thoughts and affect the person's orientation and memory.
