A Tasmanian musician who set his girlfriend's clothes on fire during a drunken fight has steered clear from imprisonment.

Opto Magnis guitarist Kier Richard Stevens pleaded guilty to unlawfully setting fire to property in the early hours of September 6.

The Tasmanian Supreme Court was told that Stevens and his girlfriend Sarah Jane Bourke got into a heated argument when they got home from a Hobart nightclub.

The heavily drunk Stevens pulled the basket of Ms Bourke's clothes into the street and burned them.

He told a passing taxi to alert the police, and spent the night in custody.

The court was told that the two have already settled their differences, and that Stevens is already replacing Ms Bourke's clothes.

Justice David Porter did not record a conviction yesterday. However, Stevens is on a good behaviour bond for 18 months.

"If you are of good behaviour for that period, you will not hear any more about this," Justice Porter told the court.
