Manchester City's Toure suspended for drug use
It looks like Giggs isn't the only soccer player peppered with controversy; Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has been suspended for six months for testing positive in a drug test. The former Arsenal midfielder won't be playing for a couple of leagues, including the UEFA ChampionsLeague.
The said drug test was conducted in February where Toure tested positive for allegedly using illicit substances. Kolo took water pills to reduce his weight, a controlled medication he secretly took from his wife. The Man City defender admitted to breaking Regulation Three of the Football Association's Doping Regulations 2010-11, but mentions he didn't take any performance-enhancing pills Because the player took the short route to end his shame, the FA gave him a curt 6-month suspension, allowing him to get back on the field by September.
Kolo's suspension began on March 2, with rules prohibiting him from taking part in football-related exercises and activities. He then spoke about his "relief" with the shy sentence he was given, mentioning how "thankful" he is for being able to go back to playing after a short amount of time.
Although presumably short and 'minor', the suspension will affect not only his career, but also Manchester City's fate on future matches. In his appearances, Kolo has been a powerful and dependable scorer, with a speed that can pull the rope to victory. Aside from the UEFA Champions League, Toure will also have to sit down the FA Cup.
