Manchester United bring back Adnan Januzaj from Borussia Dortmund loan
Adnan Januzaj’s disappointing loan spell with Borussia Dortmund is coming to an end as the Belgian starlet returns to Manchester United from the Bundesliga.
The 20-year-old Belgian international was sent on loan to the 8-time Bundesliga champions Dortmund at the start of the season by Manchester United coach Louis Van Gaal with hopes that the promising winger will receive more first-team action.
Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel, who replaced current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, has stated that he is not convinced with Januzaj’s mentality to feature as a first-team footballer for the Die Borussen. It is suggested that the decision of having him back to England was made by Van Gaal, as reported by The Telegraph.
It is expected that Januzaj will return to England by this coming weekend and will provide more attacking options and speed which United have been craving for a long time. United had a 2-1 victory over Swansea City last weekend which was their first in nine matches.
"I have said to Januzaj that I will give him opportunities in the position of nine and maybe of 10. I have done that and then decided that, no, it would be better for him to go to another environment” Van Gaal said before sending Januzaj out on loan.
“Another year in the same way as last year is not good for Januzaj. This is why we let players go on loan and we don't sell,” the Dutchman added.
Januzaj made his debut under previous Manchester United manager David Moyes and had a tremendous start to his Red Devils career. He scored two goals against Sunderland in October 2013 and was hailed as the successor of United legend Ryan Giggs.
After Van Gaal took over United, chances were scarce for Januzaj and the Belgian made only 22-appearances under the Dutchman last season. He did not score any goals during this time.
However, Januzaj scored the winner against Aston Villa at the start of this season in his team’s 1-0 victory, before being loaned out to Dortmund.
Januzaj will have a difficult time to find first-team football at United as well as the Theatre of Dreams is stacked with many footballers in his position.
Andreas Pereira, Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard, Antonio Valencia and Memphis Depay all features on the wing for United and are currently ahead of the Belgian in the selection criteria.
