Manchester United have been troubled by series of injuries involving different players in the ongoing term and losing Luke Shaw and Rafael at the same time further reduces the depth of Louis Van Gaal's already-shorthanded defensive line.

Both of the aforementioned defenders had been taken out just before the break, before goals from Ander Herrera and returnee Angel di Maria sealed the deal for the Old Trafford outfit in the second-half.

"Rafa has a fracture, so it's not looking good, and Shaw has an ankle problem," Van Gaal told MUTV.

"Rafael had a fresh injury so it was fantastic that he had the guts to play through. He has a fantastic mentality, it's unbelievable."

"But I had to change him and Shaw because they aren't 100 per cent fit."

The Dutchman had to make some adjustments due to personnel shortage, which served as a blessing in disguise since it worked to his side's advantage.

"I had to change, and I don't have more defenders, so I have to change the shape also," he added.

"I put a midfielder extra in and, because of that, maybe we had more ball possession in the second half, and we had more patience."

There is good news for United fans, nevertheless, as LVG disclosed that key men Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind are set to join the squad after being sidelined by respective injuries.

"We can be very happy because the players are coming back now," he explained.

"Angel di Maria is coming back, Daley Blind is coming back, Marcos Rojo is coming back."

"So we have more left-footed players, and that we need also. I have to solve every week another problem, and now during a match."
