Manchester United Not Worried About Radamel Falcao’s Age
Is Radamel Falcao 28 years old or 30 years old? Manchester United is not too worried after getting assurances from Falcao’s camp before signing him that he is indeed born in 1986 and not 1984 as previously rumoured.
The Colombian striker is on a one-season lone from Monaco to Manchester United in one of the celebrated moves in the 2014 transfer season.
“We were aware of the rumours at the time and it was never an issue,” according to a Manchester United official said via the Daily Mail.
Falcao has also denied that he lied about his age in the past and described it as “completely ridiculous” via the same report.
The rumour on false age started in 2012 when his old school publicly showed documents that he was born in 1984. Apparently, Falcao had to lie about the age so he can be part of the Under-20 squad of the Colombian soccer national team which participated in a 2005 youth tournament.
The 5-foot-10 Falcao also has a history of injuries which potentially can affect any long-term deals especially if age is considered. Falcao represented Colombia at the 2011 Copa America but missed the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil because of an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
"The words 'cruciate ligament injury' still strike fear into players and would-be buyers because, once you have had one, it can lead to the loss of a yard of pace and restrict the twisting of the knee because it doesn't feel as secure," Former Liverpool boss Graeme Souness said recently criticising Manchester United’s move in the transfer season.
Falcao and his family previously released his birth certificate in 2013 to the Colombian media in an effort to stop the rumours.
