Manchester United Planning A Three Argentinian Midfielders Strategy
After joining Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal first looked to fix his striking options. Right now they have a whole host of attacking talent that need not be disturbed in the next season or two. Defensively the January transfer window might not be able to provide permanent solutions as teams usually do not let go of important players in the middle of a season. Manchester United have a decent midfield with some tinkering still to be done. Therefore the experienced van Gaal has opted to settle his midfield with a few additions before a major summer overhaul at the back.
With a very successful transition of the Argentine Angel di Maria in the squad, he is looking to get more Argentinian talent in the side. Now he has turned his sight on the Argentinian and Benfica midfield duo of Enzo Perez and Nicolas Gaitan. After winning league, cups and going to two finals in Europe and the World Cup with the national side it is not without good reason that the manager seeks long term solutions with the duo.
Enzo Perez at 28 is more experienced of the two. He is a central midfielder who could slot right into forming a central midfield partnership with Michael Carrick. With Angel Di Maria already in the side, it would be easier for him to fit him into the system. Curiously when Angel Di Maria sustained an injury at the World Cup quarter finals, Perez replaced him by starting in both the semi-final and final.
Nicolas Gaitan is 26 years old and is an attacking midfielder. He is a left footer who has substantial dribbling skills and close control on the ball. He can operate in the other wing with Di Maria in the squad and can interchange during a match to unsettle opposing defenses.
The other player on the manager's wish list is Roma's Kevin Strootman who is expected to join the club either in January or after the end of the season. What is for certain is that the Glazers have provided a lot of cash to the van Gaal to bring in players this January and afterwards to increase the financial value of his team.
