Manchester United Should Steamroll The Lowest Ranked Team Still In This Year's FA Cup
The lowest ranked team still in this year's FA Cup, Cambridge United, will play the match of their season at home against the mighty Manchester United. The 8,100 capacity humble Abbey Stadium is probably the most low profile ground that will host Manchester United this season.
Cambridge United, managed by Richard Money are playing at the League Two, have been ordinary to say the least. They are in the 12th league position after 25 matches played. They have won 10 matches, drawn 5 and lost another 10. They have scored 39 goals and conceded 29 in return. They have been in decent form in the recent past winning all of their last three matches.
In the other two cup competitions they were knocked out by Birmingham City in the first round of the League Cup and by Crawley Town in the first round of the Football League Trophy. They have progressed against Fleetwood Town by a goal in the first round of the FA Cup. In the second round they needed two legs to beat Mansfield Town. In the third round they defeated Luton Town two one to earn their date with Manchester United.
Manchester United have had better seasons but are much too strong for Cambridge United to pose any serious threats. Still, it should be kept in mind that they exited the League Cup this season against a League One side Milton Keyenes Dons getting thrashed nil four away from home. Last season they exited the FA Cup at round three against a strong Swansea City side at home.
Louis van Gaal should give a debut to newly signed ex-Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes. Radamel Falcao also can redeem himself and get some goals should he be picked for the tie. In the last round Manchester United overcame a League One side Yeovil Town away from home with two second half strikers from Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria.
