Manny Pacquiao Primed For Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Mikey Garcia Winner: Pacquiao Next Fight And More Boxing News
Manny Pacquiao may face the winner of the proposed Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Mikey Garcia fight if he goes on to defeat WBO Welterweight Champion Timothy Bradley in their rematch slated April 12 at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After his flawless victory over Brandon Rios in Nov. 23, 2013, Pacquiao found himself pitted against Bradley in what would be a fight to answer all questions surrounding their first showdown 2 years ago.
In June 2012, Bradley wrested Pacquiao's WBO Welterweight crown after coming up with a split decision win over the Filipino fighting congressman. Many boxing analysts and pundits heavily criticized the judges' decision, calling it the most controversial result ever made in a boxing match.
Garcia has been the hottest young fighter on Top-Rank's stable as he toppled several big fighters in the featherweight and super-featherweight divisions, including Joan Manuel Lopez, Rocky Martinez and Juan Carlos Burgos.
According to boxing writers, Arum is now pushing up-and-coming featherweight fighter Yoriorkis Gamboa as his next opponent probably this coming May. Garcia's camp previously stressed they are not interested to face Gamboa, but they softened their stance and are now looking to arrange a showdown between two exciting featherweight champions.
"WBO super featherweight champion Mikey Garcia (34-0, 28 KO's) could be on the verge of facing his first real test of his career in Yuriorkis Gamboa (23-0, 16 KO's). According to Steve Kim, Bob Arum of Top Rank is looking to put together a fight between Mikey and Gamboa for May 17th at the LA Forum."
Boxing News 24 Chris Williams said the Garcia vs. Gamboa showdown will serve as an eliminator for the possibility of facing former pound-for-pound king Pacquiao later this year. He predicted the match to be an exciting one with both fighters looking for an impressive knockout win.
"The 26-year-old Mikey is in a situation where he has to take on a really tough opponent in his next fight at lightweight for him to be able to be taken serious as an opponent for Manny Pacquiao in September. If Arum tries to push another Juan Carlos Burgos opponent for Mikey to fight, it's not going to fly with the boxing public, and it probably won't go over too well with HBO either," Williams noted.
If everything falls in its place, the Garcia vs. Gamboa slugfest will be on May 17 likely to be held at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.
