Las Vegas and online sportsbooks are banking on a Brandon Rios upset over Manny Pacquiao for a huge haul by the bookies in the boxing match dubbed as the “Clash in Cotai”. The welterweight fight will be held this Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort in Macau.

Similar to Pacquiao’s last two fights—both disappointing results for the 34-year-old Filipino—sportsbooks are pegged to earn big once again if the 27-year-old American pulls off the upset for the third straight time against the “Pacman”.

Pacquiao lost a controversial 12-round split decision to American Timothy Bradley in June 2012. Roughly six months later, Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez knocked him out cold in a convincing sixth round knockout victory.

The powerful right counter practically removed Pacquiao at the top of any top pound-for-pound boxers’ list and eliminated him in boxing "all-time greats” discussions.

Before the pair of pathetic losses, Pacquiao was also favored in all of his six matches since being the underdog against the popular Oscar De La Hoya in May of 2009.

Pacqiuao was favored and won against Ricky Hatton (2nd round knockout); Miguel Cotto (12th round technical knockout); Joshua Clottey (12-rounds unanimous decision); Shane Mosley (12-round unanimous decision); Juan Manuel Marquez (12-round majority decision).

Pacquiao was a huge 1.2 favorite against Bradley but the judges decided that the Bradley backers deserve their 4.2 underdog payout.

Against Marquez, in the fourth installment of their series, Pacquiao was a 1.3-point favorite— we all know what happened here; the Mexican won via the thunderous right hand and the Mexican’s backers also were also victorious in Vegas and online sportsbooks with a huge haul as 3.1 underdogs.

For those new to sports betting, here’s how it works: X (Amount of Bet) times Betting Odds = Payout

This means that those who bet on Bradley (priced at 4.2) in that win over Pacquiao, received a payout of $420 for every $100 they wagered; those who bet on Marquez (priced at 3.1) received a payout of $310 for every $100 bet!

Simply, there is more value in betting on the “underdog” in boxing or any sports for that matter.

In an alternate reality where Pacquiao won over Bradley and Marquez, those betting-- still for every $100 wager on the Filipino would have earned a total payout of only $120 (or just $20) in the Bradley fight (or 1.2 odds) and a total of $130 (or just $30) in the Marquez fight (or 1.3 odds).

All those numbers in mind—and fresh off the pair of disappointing upsets— how much value is there in picking Brandon Rios to win? Here’s a look at the different prices in some online sports books:

Sportsbook – Clash in Cotai Betting Odds
sportsbet.com.au - Pacquiao (1.16) vs. Rios (4.65)
bet365.com - Pacquiao (1.16) vs. Rios (5.0)
pinnaclesports.com – Pacquiao (1.22) vs. Rios (4.65)

The numbers above can still change as the fight draws close. However, it’s clear that once again, Pacquiao is the huge favorite. But will we see an ending similar to that of the Bradley brouhaha or the Marquez surprise?

If the fight goes the distance will (two of) the boxing judges in Macau be as blind as the ones who made the (split) decision in the Bradley fight? If there’s early stoppage in the fight, will it come from Rios’ powerful hands?

Rios has a 69.7% KO rate-- he has stopped 23 opponents in a total of 33 fights, three KOs coming in the last five and eight KOs coming in the last ten.

The “safe” bet is betting on Pacquiao—after all he’s the better fighter in Cotai and is considered the huge favorite by most books. But before you on the Filipino fighter, make sure you watch the brutal KO again:
