Asked what sort of goals does he have at this stage in his storied boxing career, 35-year-old Manny Pacquiao responded in a crowd-pleasing manner saying that he only has “one specific goal” in mind and that is to finally make the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. before he finally retires from the sport of boxing.

“I do have one specific goal and that is to give the boxing fans the fight they have always asked for [with Floyd Mayweather Jr.]. I want that fight too. I believe good faith negotiations could produce that fight,” Pacquiao declared via boxingscene.com putting more fire to the already hyped probable super fight between him and Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015 or beyond.

In the same statement, Pacquiao did not hold back in continuing to criticise Mayweather Jr. from not accepting the highly-anticipated bout adding that “it is impossible to negotiate when you are the only one sitting at the table.” Mayweather Jr. has been accused by boxing pundits and fans alike of running away from the fight with Pacquiao since it was first talked about way back in 2009.

In 2014, boxing fans have been teased again about the possibility that the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao super fight will finally happen with recent proclamations in October by Floyd Mayweather Sr., Mayweather Jr.’s father, that his son will take on the Filipino in 2015 calling it “the biggest fight that has ever been in life”. Mayweather Jr. has since put the clamps down on his own father and even threatening to remove Mayweather Sr. from The Money Team if he continues to mouth off on the said Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight.

While Mayweather Jr. has been non-committal, there are rumours that CBS/Showtime, the outfit which handles Mayweather’s pay-per-view (PPV) rights, and HBO Sports, which owns the Pacquiao airing rights, are in serious discussions in making the fight happen. Aside from pressure from his own network, Mayweather is also facing public pressure from boxing writers and analysts and of course, from the boxing fans to make the fight with Pacquiao happen.

The 37-year-old Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0-0, 26 KOs) is coming off a victory over Marcos Maidana (35-4-0, 31 KOs) last September while Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) will be facing another undefeated American in Chris Algieri (20-0-0, 8 KOs) on Nov. 23 in Macau for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) World welterweight title.
