In what was one of the weirdest and baffling sights in basketball sports, San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili experienced a first when his shoe exploded and got completely ripped while playing defense.

The good news was that it did not cause any kind of injury to the Argentinean. The incident happened during the end of the second quarter of the Spurs game versus the visiting Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

As usual NBA fans on Twitter were on top of the situation:

After Manu’s shoes blew up on him, the Spurs blew by the Pistons in the second half to notch the easy 120-110 victory. And curiously, Ginobli also exploded in the second half. After shooting 0-of-4 in the first half, the Argentine shot 6-of-7 from the field in the second. He finished with 16 points,9 assists and 3 steals.

Nike has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
