Airport operator MAp Group (ASX: MAP) said on Monday that its majority-owned Sydney Airport saw soaring traffic in August as passengers travelling through the terminal registered 2.95 million in the month, which the company said was the best August result so far.

Company chief executive Kerrie Mather said that international passengers surged by 6.2 percent in August while the terminal's domestic and regional travellers jumped higher by 8.2 percent in the same month.

Ms Mather said that the latest numbers represented watershed figures for MAp Group as "Sydney Airport recorded its strongest August ever for international, domestic and total traffic, and the sixth strongest month on record in total passenger terms."

The company also noted in its report that considerable spikes were seen in the traffic of overseas visitors as Japanese tourists that passed through the terminal shot up by 73 percent in August while Chinese and Korean passengers increased by 52 percent and 12 percent respectively.

Apart from passenger growths reported in Sydney Airport, which is 74 percent owned by MAp group, the company also revealed that traffic in Copenhagen Airport racked 12.9 percent more of passengers while Brussels Airport saw its travellers inching up a bit by 2.4 percent in the same month.

MAp Group maintains a 30.8 percent interest in Copenhagen and another 36 percent stake in Brussels as the company saw its stocks trading steadily at $3.12 as of 1336 AEST on Monday.
