Marie Osmond Gets Vegas Scare, Hospitalized
It's not every day that veteran singer Marie Osmond's voice gives out, and when it happens there is surely something wrong.
Osmond suffered a hospital scare Wednesday night when she was rushed to a Las Vegas emergency room following a shaky performance with brother Donny.
The famous sibling duo is currently headlining "Donny & Marie", a variety performance live show at the Flamingo Las Vegas hotel.
The hoarseness in her voice during the show alerted the singer to possible vocal problems and she complained of tightness in her lungs soon after.
According to Osmond's recent tweet, she suffers from allergies. She did not realize it had caused respiratory problems until she "went to hit the high notes last night on stage."
She was advised to seek hospital help immediately.
An Osmond representive confirmed in an interview with TMZ that the 52-year-old entertainer has a "bad lung problem."
Reports say Osmond was kept at the St. Rose Dominican Hospital Sienna Campus Emergency Room for X-rays and examinations. She was released after two hours.
Osmond spokesman Greg Sperry revealed to Las Vegas Sun that the star has been diagnosed with a severe case of bronchitis. Despite the diagnosis, Osmond has been given the go-ahead to continue her commitments at the Flamingo for now. Spierry added that although none of her performances have been cancelled, some numbers will possibly be cut so the singer could rest her vocal cords.
This is not the first time Osmond has experienced trouble in the public eye. She suffered a heartbreaking loss in February 2010 when her teenage son Michael committed suicide. He was 18 and has battled depression for most of his young life.
The Osmonds have been performing since the 1970s. Back then, they were singing group called the Osmond Brothers, who were later joined by their sister. Marie Osmond went on to host a TV variety show with brother Donny, called "Donny & Marie". More recently, she appeared on the popular reality TV show "Dancing With the Stars".
