Mark Zuckerberg wants to build AI for professional and personal help
Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg has set up his resolution for 2016. He says that his challenge for this year is to build artificial intelligence (AI) to help him professionally and personally.
Zuckerberg says that he intends to build a simple AI, similar to the character Jarvis from the Hollywood blockbuster film Iron Man. In the movie, Jarvis is a loyal AI butler of Tony Stark.
“My personal challenge for 2016 is to build a simple AI to run my home and help me with my work. You can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man,” wrote Zuckerberg in his Facebook post.
To build the AI, Zuckerberg first plans to explore the existing technologies. Next, he wishes to teach it to perform simple household things, such as controlling the temperature, lights and music. He further wants the system to recognise when Zuckerberg's daughter Max needs attention and recognise his friends by their face and let them in.
"For just music, the Amazon Echo is pretty great. It's been very useful for controlling music with my voice while both hands are occupied taking care of Max," writes Zuckerberg, indicating that he has already recognised a system for music control within his home.
On the professional front, Zuckerberg wants the AI to help visualize data in virtual reality (VR) to help him build better professional services and handle his organization more effectively.
Zuckerberg further says that although he spends a lot of time with the engineers to build new things, it will be a different kind of reward to build things by himself. Considering it as a “personal challenge,” Zuckerberg plans to share his new learning over the course of the year.
