Marquez Not Fighting Pacquaio for Fifth Match: ‘There’s no point’
This might be the smartest decision that Juan Manuel Marquez will ever make in his whole boxing career. The Mexican has turned down the proposed fifth fight with Pacquiao and probably making a victorious exit.
All the Manny Pacquiao fans who are anticipating a fifth match against Juan Manuel Marquez for a possible "revenge" are going to be disappointed. The Mexican boxer who knocked out the "People's Champ" last December says that he is not interested with another fight with Manny.
The 39-year-old who has proved that Manny Pacquaio can be defeated says that there is no point for a Pacquaio vs Marquez V.
"I think there is no point [in a fifth fight]. We already achieved the desired result. Then why do it?" he said on BoxingScene.com "I also asked several people, several friends that I have around me and they told me not to do it, that there is no point in a fifth fight. I said before the fourth fight that no matter how this fight ends, there cannot be a fifth."
His decision makes a lot of sense since this is how every boxer in the world wishes to retire, victorious. Juan Manuel Marquez has reached the pinnacle of his boxing career so there is no point why he would choose to risk it again with a Pacquaio fight.
"Juanma can fight anywhere in the world. He is the best pound for pound. At this time around, he does not depend on Pacquiao. We are going to fight anyone that people demand us to," Marquez's promoter, Fernando Beltran, said.
As for Team Pacquiao, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum thinks that it was the Mexican's way in posturing and negotiating for a higher bid.
"He'll negotiate when it [the date] gets closer, I'm not worried about that. He really doesn't have anything else. Bradley and all of those other guys out there, he's not going to make the money that he would for Pacquiao," Roach concurred.
