In the midseason finale of “Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) was killed by Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) in the other dimension after they both entered the portal. Coulson used his robotic arm to crush Ward’s chest. However, fans may not have seen the last of Ward. [Spoilers Alert!]

IGN reports that there will most likely be more of Ward when the show returns in 2016, since the mysterious Inhuman that Hydra was looking for in the other planet took over Ward’s body and travelled through the portal toward Earth.

Dalton shared more details about the portal mission.

“That's what this whole mission was, and in some ways it was a success and in other ways it was a failure because Ward didn't come back exactly the same. But it did bring back this creature, just maybe not in the way that they anticipated,” Dalton stated. “I mean, this guy looks like Ward, but this is a new chapter for the character and for me as the actor playing it. It will be a whole new set of challenges. It's a big deal.”

Dalton also said that “Ward 2.0” is probably the most difficult iteration of the character because they are not dealing with a human being anymore. Ward will be part-human, occupied by a powerful creature.

The actor further shared that it was bittersweet to part with his character. He teased that there are a lot of new things to look forward to with the new Ward. DenofGeek noted that the old Ward was driven by revenge and emotions, but the new Ward was triggered by something else and is more powerful than the previous one.

Dalton also revealed that the Inhuman has a huge task, as Gideon Malick (Powers Boothe) mentioned. He added that fans will have to tune in to the next episode to find out more. However, they should expect Grand Ward to return soon. Dalton said that the production team invested a lot of effort and time in developing his new character, but he cannot say how long Ward 2.0 will be playing a role when the show continues. He said that fans will certainly have a lot of questions when Ward returns from Maveth.
