'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 4 updates: Ming-Na Wen gets candid about May's situation, 'Philinda' shipping
It looks like “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will be letting its viewers witness deeper details into Marvel’s lore as it finally features Life Model Decoys. When the third season ended, the show introduced the comic book concept with a brief salutation to the artificial intelligence data analyzer used by Dr. Radcliffe (John Hanna), AIDA.
In the show’s midseason finale, Ming Na Wen’s Agent Melinda May was shown to be unconscious in Dr. Radcliffe’s lab, who happens to be under the careful watch of Aida (Mallory Jansen). While all this was happening, Mary was still out in the field. As fans might ask how this happened, the answer is that an LMD copy of Agent May has already made it amongst the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D. for reasons that are yet to be seen -- and Ming Na Wen is apparently delighted by that idea herself.
Wen says that when she learned that she was going to have an LMD copy, she was very surprised, reports Entertainment Weekly. Although this version of her character is not human, it has all the memories that the real May does and this is how she has managed to go practically undetected.
She also adds that playing the LMD copy of May did not feel very different from playing the original one. The challenge in this role was for her to keep track of what is actually going on and being constantly conscious of who is who.
As for the real May, Wen reveals that she will not be delighted at all about what has been happening in her sleep when she wakes up. She will get pissed and maybe a little disappointed in herself for having been imprisoned.
Fortunately, this could open up to a fan favourite relationship between agents Coulson and May. Clark Gregg had previously hinted on another EW interview in 2016 that the show would finally get its hands on exploring the “Philinda” dynamic. He says that it was really clever for the show’s writers to have come up with a way to fulfill the desires of the fans who wanted to see the Philinda tandem take place. As for May, it would be very interesting to delve deeper into her character since she does not open up a lot. An interesting way to get into her head would be through her LMD copy.
