Mary Berry Left Red Faced Over the Cricket Legend Michael Vaughan, 'The Great British Bake Off' For Sport Relief Returns
British Bake Off Star Mary Berry, a die-hard cricket fan, was singing accolades for Michael Vaughan while filming the "The Great British Bake Off." Vaughan paid her back with a warm kiss on her cheeks and a photograph at the end of the show.
During the Sport Relief version of the show, Berry who is judging the challenge was left embarrassed when co-stars said she was desperately praising and supporting former England captain despite his poor baking skills.
While filming the show, the cricket enthusiast Berry went out of the way to lend a hand and support Vaughan despite him being a poor cook. Paul Hollywood even said during the filming: "Why don't you get round the other side?" pointing toward her that she may as well bake the cakes for him in the challenge rather than advising him.
Vaughan even dropped his biscuits on the ground and received the judgment that he hadn't got the correct pastry for both his creations: biscuits garnished with blueberry jam in the shape of smiley faces and 'tarte tatin.' Berry overlooked his mistakes and left her hard task master exterior aside and supported the cricket legend.
"Mary's husband, Paul, is a big cricket fan and so when Michael came on the show for the Sport Relief special, she was so excited. She couldn't believe a former England captain was in the studio on Bake Off," a show insider said.
"Paul and Sue couldn't help but pick up on this and they joked quite a few times during the day's filming that she had a soft spot for him. At one point when she was offering advice to Michael on how to bake his cake, Paul said that she should actually get around the other side next to him and help out. Michael laughed and told Paul she was being very helpful," the insider noted.
"Mary took it all in good spirits. At the end of the day's filming, Mary had her photograph taken with Michael and he even gave her a peck on the cheek - much to her delight," the insider claimed.
Sports and food enthusiasts will have to wait to watch whether the cricket legend will be crowned the best celebrity baker on Monday's show. Vaughan's rival bakers include Johnny Vaughan and Kirsty Young. His extraordinary baking creation "a Lord's Cricket Pitch cake" is labeled by celebrities as a Halloween scene which is making him an implausible champ.
Vaughan shared the reason behind participating the show. "I want to try and raise as much money as possible (for Sport Relief) and have some fun. But I'm very proud that I produced something that Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood actually ate. Only a little spoonful but they had some of my bake," Vaughan said expressing his happiness that both judges ate his bake.
We wish him all the best for his efforts in raising funds for sport relief!
