Mary J. Blige, known as the queen of hip-hop soul shares that her new songs are now fuelled with hope and of other good things compared before of when she uses pain for motivation.

It is only with her song 'Need Someone' from her new album entitled as "My Life II... The Journey Continues (Act 1)" that she can relate her younger days back then filled with troubles and heartaches.

Blige, even at 40, is releasing yet another album which is actually her 10th already. It is a sequel to her 'My Life' album in 1994 that served as her springboard to her popularity in the world of R&B.

Her struggles were not only of her broken relationships in the past but also with her well documented struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction.

During Her Most Troubled Times

It was in the middle of her emotional turmoil that she felt like she was going to die. "I was starting to feel like I didn't want to be here... You're there, but you aren't really there. I didn't want to die, but I wanted to die." sings Blige in the album.

Right after she has hit rock bottom, she came back to the roots of her Christian faith and with her abstinence from her vices, she decided to release a new album in 2001 called 'No More Drama.'

She shares that after all those years, she has managed to come up with albums that served as public outcry. It was with her depressing songs that made her realize how many fans are out there who shares her own kind of pain.

But this time, the artist wants to channel another aura. That things have gotten better but still the challenges are always there to make sure things get greater.

How Fans Accepted Her 'Happier' Type of Songs

It was ironic to have found out that many fans were not so much happy with the release of her so called 'happier' songs with the new album. It is true that she has always received lots of positive reviews for each of her CDs but it seems the majority find her happy music lame.

Blige admitted that she got hurt with such comments at first, only to realize later on that many of her fans just have not moved on yet as much as she was able to do so.

The Real Message of the New Album

Mary J. Blige is confident of one thing that her new album would show everyone what keeps her going and going through the rough times - and that is by accepting who she really is.

She ended up one recent interview she made with a powerful statement in which she inserted several titles from her album: "There are still going to be trials and 'Mr. Wrong's' and moments like 'No Condition' and 'Empty Prayers.' But the bottom line is, we need to love ourselves. That't it."
