‘MasterChef New Zealand’ Eliminates Sisters Bronwyn And Fiona
“MasterChef New Zealand” has seen another sibling duo go down. Sisters Bronwyn Bijl and Fiona Marris from Christchurch were disappointed that their journey ended so soon after they failed a challenge during the episode on Monday.
The challenge required the remaining 13 duos to raid fridges from different parts of the country in one hour and come up with a main dish and dessert.
Brownwyn and Fiona got a fridge with half-opened cans of chickpeas and tomatoes in it, as well as half-drunk of coffee. Judge Josh Emett suggested that they could make bread with the yeast in the fridge, but they didn’t think they had enough time.
They ended up serving Spanish-style grilled vegetables with flatbread and a deconstructed date ice cream cone with salted caramel sauce, both of which failed to impress the judges.
“You’ve shown some good technique in your dishes, but you just haven’t made the most of the ingredients you had to work with,” Ray McVinnie observed of the pair.
With disappointing scores from the judges, the sisters were put in the bottom three, alongside flatmates Glynn Rudolph and James Culleton, and former partners Jennifer Clark and Elizabeth Marshall, who were also in the bottom two on Sunday’s episode.
In the end, Bronwyn and Fiona were sent home.
They were the third duo eliminated from the show. Friends Janiana Mendes and Thiago de Almeida Schaich and siblings Courtney and Matt Crammond were the first and second partners respectively to be eliminated.
“We have done a lot of cooking over the years. Timing was not an issue for us. We managed that well,” Fiona told MSN after their elimination. “The techniques of cooking in the environment we hadn’t considered carefully enough.
“Given another few weeks we would have adapted to it. In hindsight we should have considered what MasterChef conditions would be like to cook in.”
