More and more people are getting hooked to the MasterChef as the show keeps getting better.

Season 2 of the reality TV show being aired on Channel 10 is receiving good ratings compared with its first season.

The weeknight editions rose 35 per cent from last year, whereas the Sunday edition rose more than 9 per cent.

The ocean liner challenge episode on Wednesday night set a season-high record of 1.968 million viewers.

While experts are wondering if the show's final episode in July will break last year's record of 3.72 million viewers, some critics forecast that over five million Australians will watch the finale.

"To achieve audience growth (compared to last year) is spectacular," media analyst Steve Allen said.

Ten's switching of MasterChef's timeslot from 7pm to 7:30pm has become an advantage for the show since its ratings have become impressive, beating opposition shows including Two and a Half Men, Australia's Got Talent, Hey Hey it's Saturday and Top Gear.

"The experiment has paid off. They were right in spades," Allen said.

According to Ten Melbourne program director Peter Andrews, the show is "just hitting its straps" and ratings could still grow.

"It is a water-cooler show - a show that everyone's talking about," Andrews says.

"It comes down to the casting - having contestants people can identify with.

"The challenges are more surprising and it's looking great."

MasterChef's popularity greatly affected the ratings of its rival shows and may even hit Seven's Better Homes and Gardens, Find My Family and The Zoo.

"After last year's series we looked at how MasterChef performed in the 7.30pm Sunday time slot," Andrews said.

"We thought that it was a show that would perform to its best in that time slot because it allows more accessibility to viewers."
