‘MasterChef UK 2017’: Gregg and John give second life to raw poultry maker Visha; Fans fume
“MasterChef UK 2017” fans are so furious that they have branded this week’s contestants the worst up to now. They are going ballistic because of one contestant who has bagged a place in the quarter finals, even after serving raw meat to judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode.
Fans were sure that contestant Visha would be booted out of the competition for her arrogance and raw chicken dish. To their surprise, they selected her. Visha had even arrogantly spoken about her cooking skills before serving raw chicken. Her skills certainly didn’t impress fans, though the judges thought otherwise. Despite the cooking blunder, the judges gave her a second chance. This has enraged fans. However, the contestant was able to redeem herself when cooking for the former “MasterChef” winners.
This was not a tough ask for her after repeated cooking fails from fellow contestants that included, tough scallops, burnt potatoes and desserts with no sugar, writes The Sun. John, along with the former winner, had their fair share of criticisms. “MasterChef UK 2017” fans took to social media as soon as Visha was selected by the judges for the quarter finals. In fact, they weren’t happy with the entire batch of contestants. Wednesday night’s episode saw Visha aiming to prepare a dish of chicken leg rubbed with a garlic and Scotch bonnet pepper paste, lentils with coriander and spiced fondant potatoes.
John and Gregg praised Visha’s flavour combinations but criticised her for the undercooked poultry. “You know how to flavour food, that’s for sure,” John said. Visha remarked saying, “Ever since I’ve been cooking I’ve never had an undercooked chicken, so that’s really annoyed me.” Gregg said, “Your flavours are lovely. However that whole thing is going to be ruined if you serve us undercooked chicken and raw lentils.”All this did not make of a difference as Visha made it to the next stage.
During the second half of the show, Visha impressed with tilapia coconut curry with a homemade poppadom, which won rave reviews from Gregg and John, reports Metro. Recently it was revealed that the judges have to taste cold food, as the food lays idle for a long time. This is because photographers and the TV crew have to take appropriate shots of the food, before serving the judges. Hence, food temperature is one aspect the judges cannot judge upon. “MasterChef UK 2017” continues on Thursday night on BBC One at 8pm.
