Britney Spears’ dad isn’t just her conservator, he is also her wingman. Jamie Spears reportedly introduced Charlie Ebersol to the 32-year-old pop princess, hoping that they would hit it off. He was right.

Britney recently revealed that she’s dating a new man, and it’s none other than Charlie, 31, the son of former NBC Sports chief Dick Ebersol and actress Susan St. James. Apparently, after her ex-boyfriend David Locado cheated on her, papa Spears took upon himself to find a suitable guy for his daughter.

Jamie met Charlie during a business pitch meeting in September. Charlie allegedly offered Britney’s management a reality show starring Britney. The dad liked the idea so he had Britney attend the subsequent meetings. That’s when he saw the chemistry between the two.

“Charlie had to pass the dad test for sure,” a friend of Jamie told MailOnline. “And Charlie had to pass legal muster, too, with that mob of lawyers that run her world.”

The twice-married star is under conservatorship, with her father acting as her main conservator. Her finances and wellbeing are in the hands of Jamie and her lawyers, which meant that Jamie has a big say on whom she can date.

Jamie also set her up with David, but when he found out that he cheated on Britney, he reportedly bought the evidence tape of David’s cheating to spare his daughter further heartache of the video being released in public. Britney immediately dumped David after that.

Before David there was Jason Trawick, who was introduced to Britney by her older brother David. Their relationship lasted for over two years.

“Britney functions best with a man in her life, and Jamie knows that. He is good at selecting just the right candidates. They last a while. That’s all anyone can ask, really. Britney has a complicated life,” the source continued. “It took less than a month for Jamie to find Charlie. He eyeballed him from a distance at first. But after a few meetings together, Jamie knew he’d found a good guy.”

Britney didn’t know her latest relationship is her father’s brainchild, though. Apparently, Jamie made it seem that it was her own idea to date the reality TV producer. If she had known the truth, she might rebel and the whole thing wouldn’t work.
