Matt Bomer: 'White Collar' Actor Proud with ‘Prisonbreak’ Star Wentworth Miller Coming Out as Gay [PHOTOS]
Actor Wentworth Miller recently made headlines after coming out as gay with fans and other Hollywood celebrities showing their support for the 41-year-old "Prisonbreak" star. One of them happens to be "White Collar" actor Matt Bomer who had nothing but praises with Wentworth Miller's decision to admit his sexual identity.
"Wow, I think it's really bold and incredibly classy how he came out and did it. I am really proud of him. It's very reflective of his amazing character," Matt Bomer said to E!News at Heineken's U.S. Open kickoff party in New York City. He further added that Wentworth Miller still has a "long way to go" in the United States.
Another celebrity who praised the "Prisonbreak" actor's revelation is "Dawson's Creek" star James Van Der Beek. The actor expressed on his Twitter account @vanderjames: "I kind of love Wentworth Miller schooling the Russian government on how real men respond to discrimination."
Wentworth Miller confirmed he is gay in a written letter to the director of the St. Petersburg International Film Festival declining the invitation he received. Portion of the actor's letter that GLAAD acquired reads: "I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly."
Mr Miller joins other celebrities, like Andy Cohen, in voicing out their disagreement to the country's recently implemented "gay propaganda" laws. Andy Cohen has also declined the invitation to travel to Russia in light of the anti-gay laws.
As for Matt Bomer, the "White Collar" star came out in 2012 during an acceptance speech for the humanitarian award he received where he thanked partner Simon Halls. The 35-year-old actor shared that he is currently pleased with the optimistic movement to the LGBT rights. "I hope all these laws continue to pass, but we still have a long way to go," Mr Bomer stated.
