Matt Damon Going to Sydney for Australian Premiere of ‘Elysium’ In August (TRAILER)
Matt Damon is going Down Under. The Academy Award-winning actor and his co-star Sharlto Copley (“District 9”) will be in Sydney in August to attend the premiere of their new film “Elysium.”
Matt and Sharlto will be at the Event Cinemas in George St on August 12, Monday to join fans in watching their big budget action sci-fi flick.
The film also stars Jodie Foster, Alice Braga, Faran Tahir, William Fitchner, and Diego Luna, but it’s not known if they would be able to join the two actors in bringing their film to their Australian fans.
“Elysium” is set in the year 2154 where people are divided into two classes: the poor who live in the decrepit, overpopulated Earth and the very wealthy who live in a man-made utopia called Elysium. It stars Matt as Max, a former car thief who became a factory worker on Earth. When he meets an accident at work, he learns that he has just a few days to get to Elysium to save his life.
It’s not going to be easy, though, as Elysium is strictly guarded by Defence Secretary Delacourt (Jodie), who does whatever it takes to keep illegal immigrants off.
If Max succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.

Written and directed by Neill Blompkamp, who also helmed the critically acclaimed and commercial successful “District 9” in 2009, “Elysium” will be released in both conventional and IMAX theatres on August 15 in Australia.
Matt isn’t the only A-lister who will go to Australia to promote his film.
On July 2, Sandra Bullock has brought “The Heat” to Sydney. Her co-star Melissa McCarthy was nowhere in sight, but the Academy Award best actress was still able to charm her fans as she attended photo calls and her new comedy film’s premiere, which was at the Event Cinemas on George St as well.
