Matthew Broderick also loves Robert Downey Jr. The “Dirty Weekend” actor has returned the “Iron Man” star’s love, even giving him permission to date wife Sarah Jessica Parker to lunch.

In an interview with Howard Stern earlier in October, Downey Jr. expressed his desire to see his ex-girlfriend again. However, he wouldn’t ask her out until he has Parker’s husband’s permission first.

“I’ll make a point of trying to see her while I’m here. I’d like to,” the 49-year-old actor told the shock jock of Parker, whom he dated from 1984 until 1991.

“I’ll ask his permission. I just want to check in for a few minutes. I love Matthew Broderick.”

When Stern suggested that perhaps it’s better to also include Broderick to the lunch, Downey Jr. said, “I’d love to have him there. I’ll bring Susan [Downey, his wife].”

It turned out Broderick is open with the idea of his wife reconnecting with her ex-boyfriend.

“Of course, he’s more than [okay to connect her] – they’re great friends! What would I say? No? Who do you think I am? No, I love Robert Downey and Sarah Jessica Parker so [yes!]” he told Us magazine at the opening of “It’s Only a Play” on Broadway.

The woman in question also has no problem with the idea.

“He and I have always been on wonderful terms so ... of course I’m hospitable to that!” Parker, 49, said.

Parker and Downey Jr. met on the set of “Firstborn” in 1984 and dated until 1991. According to Downey in previous reports, his drug addiction ruined their relationship. He said Parker tried to help him, but he didn’t get his act together.

“I was in love with Sarah Jessica and love clearly was not enough. I was meant to move on. And, after some heartache, she was meant to find her home with a great star,” he told Parade magazine in 2008.

Downey Jr. then married actress Deborah Falconer, with whom she had a 21-year-old son Indio. Their divorce was finalised in 2004. He then married Susan, a film producer, in 2005.

Parker, on the other hand, married Broderick in 1997. They have three children, son James Wilkie (born in 2002) and twin daughters Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge (born in 2009 via surrogate).
