Floyd Mayweather Jr. will fight in September 2014 although no opponent or venue has been set yet. With a Manny Pacquiao fight booked for November also this year, the much-demanded Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is all but a pipe dream for now considering the close gap between the two bouts.

"Floyd will go on Sept. 13 and we looking at who he's going to fight and where he is going to fight," Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather Promotions chief executive said to ESPN.com. "Obviously, Las Vegas is his home and the MGM Grand is always the leading candidate but we will take a look at our other options."

Mayweather signed a six-fight $200 million contract with Showtime/CBS in 2013 and this is the fourth installment in that deal.

Ellerbe said that the MGM Grand is the front-runner for the venue of the fight as Las Vegas is “Mayweather’s home.”

"We're looking at opponents now. In the next two weeks we'll have that part figured out," added Ellerbe who mentioned a re-match with Marcos Maidana is a possibility.

Maidana indulged Mayweather in a memorable bout just last May 3 in what was considered one of the toughest fights in the undefeated American’s career. Mayweather stayed perfect 46-0-0 after the bout with a 116-112, 117-111, 114-114 victory over Maidana for the WBC welterweight and the WBA Super World welterweight titles.

Other fighters considered are Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman—both of whom fight under Golden Boy Promotions.

There was no mention of Pacquiao as a probable opponent for Mayweather most probably because the Filipino already has a bout lined up for November 16 in Macau.

Like the Mayweather fight, no opponent has been finalized yet for Pacquiao although Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions has initiated talks with Juan Manuel Marquez for a fifth fight between the two boxing icons.
