American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr is just two more fights away from retiring professional boxing as he improved his record to 47-0 on Saturday after he won over Argentinean boxer Marcos Maidana in a unanimous decision.

The 116-111 given by two judges and another 117-100 by the third judge contrasts with the split decision in their first match on May 3.

The rematch, however, was marred in the eighth round when Mayweather accused Maidana of biting him on the wrist. The Argentinean boxer was also penalised for tripping his opponent on the 10th round, which supports Money May's accusation even during their first match that Maidana is a dirty fighter.

After the bite, Mayweather showed to referee Kenny Bayless the bite mark on his wrist and then to Showtime announced to complain as he shouted, "He bit me."

"We were tangled in the center of the ring and I didn't realize what it was. Then I saw that he bit me ... After the eighth round my fingers were numb, I couldn't use my left hand," Mayweather recounted, quoted by ABC.

But Maidana denied he bit Mayweather. "How can he say I bit the glove with my mouthpiece? I'm not a dog," he retorted.

Like their first match, Maidana threw more punches, 572 versus Mayweather's 326, but the latter's landed more 166 to 128. Punch stats said Mayweather, with his defense, was hit by only 22 per cent of Maidana's punches but landed 51 per cent on his opponent.

The guaranteed purse of Mayweather for this fight is $32 million, bringing to $137 million his total earnings for his last 3 fights and keeping his status as the highest-earning athlete as listed by Forbes magazine. Maidana doubled is purse to $3 million from May's $1.5 million. Both boxers will also get their shares of pay-per-view buys.

Maidana, who won several round by his aggressive style marked by chasing Mayweather everywhere, said, "I thought I won the fight. He ran. I was the aggressor. Maybe judges like fighters who run."

With Maidana losing two fights, the question now in the mind of boxing fans is would Mayweather have Manny Pacquiao as his last opponent in September 2015?
