'The Maze Runner' Movie Review: Best And Worst Moments Of The Film [WATCH VIDEO]

"The Maze Runner" which is distributed by 20th Century Fox was shown in Australia on Sept. 18, 2014, U.S. and Canadian theatres on Sept. 19, 2014 and New Zealand theatres on Sept. 25, 2014. It stars Dylan O'Brien (Thomas), Will Poulter (Gally), Kaya Scodelario (Teresa), Aml Ameen (Alby), Blake Cooper (Chuck) and Carl Greene (Glader). Here is a brief movie review of it including the best and worst moments of the film.
"The Maze Runner" is based on James Dashner's best-selling novel of the same title. It is directed by Wes Ball. The said film is produced by Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Lee Stollman, Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. The film's runtime is 113 minutes. Its main plot is about a group of boys including Thomas (O'Brien) and Gally (Poulter) who are living in the Glade which is adjacent to a wall that opens to a large maze. Thomas doesn't remember anything and he tries to recover bits and pieces of his memory as he tries to escape the labyrinth that he is trapped in.
"The Maze Runner" also features Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Newt), Ki Hong Lee (Minho), Jacob Latimore (Jeff), Patricia Clarkson (Ava Paige), Chris Sheffield (Ben), Joe Adler (Zart), Randall D. Cunningham (Clint), Dexter Darden (Fry Pan) and Alexander Flores (Win).
BEST MOMENTS:
When...
1. Thomas remembered his name during a fight with Gally.
2. Thomas defeated a Griever while inside the maze and saved himself, Alby and Minho.
3. Newt made Thomas a Runner.
4. Teresa appeared from The Box with a note and two syringes.
5. Thomas finally remembered that he worked with Teresa to create the maze and what they were experiencing in the Glade and in the maze is only a test.
6. Thomas and some Gladers escaped the maze and ended up in a lab where it was revealed that they were all part of an experiment to test their resistance to an epidemic that has plagued the entire planet.
7. The survivors of the experiment were taken to safety after the shocking revelation.
WORST MOMENTS:
When...
1. Thomas was attacked by a Griever-stung Ben (Chris Sheffield).
2. Ben was forced into the Maze by the Gladers and left in there to die.
3. The Grievers attacked and kill some of the Gladers, including Alby.
4. It was revealed that the experiment was only Phase One. The survivors will have to undergo Phase Two of the said experiment.
BOX OFFICE INFO:
According to Box Office Mojo, the film's budget is $34 million. As of Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, the film has already earned $85,769,405 worldwide (Domestic Total: $36,769,405 + Foreign Total: $49,000,000). "The Maze Runner" earned $32,512,804 on its opening weekend.
IMDB RATINGS:
The Internet Movie Database, or IMDb rating for "The Maze Runner" is 7.6/10 from 19,239 users. It garnered a Metascore of 56/100 from various critics including Bill Zwecker of Chicago Sun-Times and Drew McWeeny of HitFix.
ROTTEN TOMATOES RATINGS:
According to the Tomatometer, "The Maze Runner" deserves a 63% score and is considered Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes. It scored a 6/10 average rating, with 66 considering it fresh and 39 considering it rotten out of 105 reviews. It also got a 79% score from the audience.
CRITICS' REVIEWS:
"Beyond the visuals, what makes The Maze Runner so compelling is its attention-grabbing storyline," Bill Zwecker wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times.
Meanwhile, film critic Drew A.A. Dowd of The A.V. Club said that the film's ending should have been better than just offering up the possibility of another maze to come.
AUDIENCE REVIEWS:
"Aside from the occasional pot holes in the plot, "The Maze Runner" is a solid & thrilling adaptation," Eugene Bernabe wrote in a review posted on the Rotten Tomatoes website.
Super reviewer KJ Proulx also wrote on the Rotten Tomatoes website that watching the film was a blast and that it had some great performances.
