"The McCarthys" "Pilot" episode is directed by Andy Ackerman and written by Brian Gallivan. According to the Futon Critic, in the show's series premiere, the audience will be introduced to the close-knit McCarthy family composed of Ronny, Arthur, Marjorie, Jackie, Sean and Gerard. They live in Boston, Massachusetts and are way into sports - except for Ronny, who is openly gay.

Ronny gets a job offer in Rhode Island and he is tempted to take it. However, it would mean being separated from the rest of his family. Ronny is okay with that, but his family is not yet ready for him to move to another place, away from them.

His father Arthur, who is a high school basketball coach, offers him a job as his assistant so that Ronny won't have to move to Rhode Island anymore. However, Ronny is not interested in sports, unlike his siblings, who were all eyeing that job.

"The McCarthys" "Pilot" episode will feature several stars including Noelle Messier (Basketball Player/Lesbian), Ken Howard (Coach Colwell), Gregory Smith (Basketball Coordinator), Jeff Hiller (Phillip), Miguel Najera (Priest), Jon Barinholtz (Henry), Rayna Tharani (Hot Female Mourner) and Bill Parks (Ken).
