To all fans of this classic game out there, get ready for a new monopoly token and it says Me-ow!

After seven months of getting votes worldwide, the new monopoly cat token has been launched. Hasbro formally rolled out the new piece which will serve as the replacement for the usual iron token. Aside from being included in the fresh set of Monopoly boxes to hit the market, the new token is also set to be introduced to the public during the 2013 Internet Cat Video Festival.

Among the choices between a guitar, helicopter, robot or diamond ring, it was the cat that got the most votes.

How The New Monopoly Token Looks

It appears as a small cat made in metallic design that looks very cool. It measures about a half inch wide and a half inch long and mixes well with the rest. It comes with a cat face with a tail and four legs. Good thing the metallic cat is hypoallergenic!

In the actual game, it will serve as your avatar once you negotiate your way with the rest of the other players as everyone explores the real estate of Atlantic City.

Cat Lovers Vs Critics

All the cat lovers in the world celebrated with this new monopoly token design. However, it did not escape the eye of those who remain as critics of the cat token, as they still wonder the connection of the cat icon from the line of industry that the Monopoly game projects.

This is not the first time that the famous game experimented with new token design. Way back in 1935, it offered a variety of tokens like the iron, top hat, thimble, shoe, race car and battleship. In the 1950s, it was followed by more tokens like the wheelbarrow and the dog. Other tokens that can be noted include sack of money and cannon in 1999 but took a halt in 2007.

Even for Monopoly's Australia edition, there were reports that say it even featured a koala token. On the other hand, the beaver token was added to the Canadian edition.
