Meet Mick: The Man Who Couldn't Kiss His Wife For Two Years
Smoking, as the cigarette packs used to warn, is "dangerous to your health". Apparently, it is dangerous to your family too. The recent campaign called Meet Mick which is focused on the adverse effects of the vice hits an issue close to home. It shows the story of Michael "Mick" Roberts, a married and with 4 children, who started smoking at age 14. Mick, who is currently suffering from emphysema, is seen on the ad with an oxygen support attached to him. He speaks to the camera talking about how his vice negatively affected his life and his family.
"I've been married for 21 years and I couldn't kiss my wife for two years because I didn't have the breath," Mick was quoted by The West Australian as saying.
"Struggling to breathe...hopping in an ambulance and not knowing whether you're going to see your family again...seeing the terror in their eyes as you turn blue," Mick intimated, as a press advertisement read.
"You think it's not going to happen to you, but it could," he warned.
"However much you like smoking, however much you think you can't quit – it's just not worth the risk to you and your family. Give it up," he advised.
"I'm scared, my wife is scared and my family is scared."
His wife Chris who used to be a smoker herself shared that, "I just think smokers don't realise what they might put their family through."
Emphysema is a disease characterised by the damage to a person's lungs. Those who battle with it does not receive the adequate supply of oxygen that the body needs to function properly. Cigarette smoking is considered to be the most common cause of such condition.
Smokers pay the price for the bad choices they make. Unfortunately, they are not alone in dealing with the problems that such bad habit brings. The people who love them and matters most to their lives carry the burden as well.
If you can't bear to see your loved ones suffering as a result of your own faults, then it's about time to change your ways.
