Melbourne Cup, also touted as “the race that stops a nation,” is here. Australia’s most prestigious thoroughbred horse race will be a host to the nation’s finest jockeys. Celebrities from the local and international scene shine bright as they flock at the festivities.

The Birdcage in Flemington has stars coming left and right wearing crowns for the gentlemen and larger than life hats for the ladies.

French DJ David Guetta is one of the celebrity attendees joined by Fashion Police duo Melissa Rivers and Brad Goreski. Aussie actor Julian McMahon will join the trio at the Birdcage and spend the day at the Mumm marquee.

At the Myer marquee, “The Bachelorette” star Sam Frost arrived with her beau Sasha Mielczarek. This is the first official outing of the couple in a celebrity-laden event. The couple will join Kate Peck who also made her first appearance with boyfriend James. Both couples will join other ambassadors Kris Smith, Rachel Finch and Jennifer Hawkins, who wore a stunning neon yellow dress by designer Toni Matičevski.

At the Emirates marquee, British stars were spotted including Millie Mackintosh, Lady Kitty Spencer and milliner Stephen Jones. Aussies Emma Freedman, Francesca, Gretel, Ros Packer and Molly Meldrum are also at the same marquee.

Over at the Swisse marquee, arriving with an entourage are Aussie tennis star Leyton Hewitt and wife Bec Hewitt. Hewitt serves as an ambassador for the brand together with Ricky Ponting and netball players Sharni Layton and Laura Geitz.

Swisse boss Radek Sali, reportedly one of the youngest and wealthiest businessman in the country, also arrived. Sali who is yet to reach 40s recently sold Swisse to a Hong Kong listed company for a staggering AU$1.67 million.

Asked about the attention given to him at the event, he told The Age, "I'm actually a pretty private person so that sort of attention is a little bit embarrassing but you know, I'm very proud of what we have created with Swisse."

Australian media personalities also turned up with weather girl Edwina Bartholomew and The Australian’s fashion editor Glynis Traill-Nash unexpectedly wearing the same dress. Both women posed for photos and Nash posted it on Twitter making light of the situation by saying that they both have an excellent taste.

The 2015 Melbourne Cup features twenty four of the best staying horses across the nation vying for a lucrative US$6 million prize pool.
