A Melbourne nurse will be charged today over alleged possession of methamphetamine in Malaysia, Fairfax reported.

Emma Louise L'aiguille, 34, was arrested in Kuala Lumpur on July 17. She had been in a parked car with a Nigerian man when Malaysian police officers approached them and later searched the car.

The Royal Malaysia Police's narcotics reported finding about a kilogram of methamphetamine hidden under a car seat.

Malaysia's Dangerous Drugs Act gets two Aussies so far in 2012

A person found guilty of carrying over 50 grams of illegal drugs in Malaysia is expected to face death penalty under the country's Dangerous Drugs Act.

Ms L'aiguille is the second Australian this year to be involved in drug-related arrests. Perth man Dominic Jude Christopher Bird, 32, was arrested on March 1 after police caught him trying to sell 167grams of methamphetamine.

"Australian consular officials are providing consular assistance to the woman and her family," a spokesperson for the Australian High Commission in Malaysia said.

History: Death penalty executions in Malaysia claimed three Australians

Three Australians have died from drug-related death penalties in Malaysia, reported Canberra Times.

In July 1986, Perth men Kevin John Barlow and Brian Chambers were hanged in Pudu Prison after being charged with trafficking 141.9 grams of heroin. Malaysia ignored appeals for clemency at the time.

In June 1993, Sydney barman Michael McAuliffe was hanged after being charged with trafficking 141.89 grams of heroin.

Biggest methamphetamine haul

Meanwhile, in Sydney, Australian Federal Police say they have seized up to $500 million worth of smuggled drugs from a Hong-Kong based syndicate Monday night.

AFP Deputy Commissioner Andrew Colvin told ABC the drugs were seized separately in eight raids in different spots in Sydney.

"This seizure included an AFP record of 306 kilograms of ice and 252 kilograms of heroin," he said, noting it is the largest police haul of ice in the AFP history.
