Melbourne's Rebecca Lim set to follow Alexandra Adornetto with new Mercy series
Melbourne author Rebecca Lim gets set to debut a dazzling new Young Adult (YA) series and unforgettable paranormal eponymous heroine with Mercy. Will she follow the footsteps of fellow Melbourne writer Alexandra Adornetto who currently steams up the New York Times bestseller list?
Developments in Rebecca Lim's writing career seem promising. Germany-based publisher Ravensburger won the rights to Mercy at auction with undisclosed six-figure offer with negotiation for rights in other territories continuing.
The new series Mercy, in the words of publisher Lisa Berryman, is an "electric combination of angels and mystery." Earlier this year, Mercy was acquired in a joint Australian-United Kingdom four-book deal .
United Kingdom publisher Rachel Denwood said: "Rebecca Lim's Mercy is a superb addition to our strong YA portfolio. Winningly high-concept, stylishly written, and with an utterly enthralling girl character at its heart, it will strike a chord with lovers of supernatural fiction and those teens who enjoy a really good mystery."
Rebecca Lim is a writer and illustrator who has written ten books for children published both in Australia and internationally. Lim had won several national writing and poetry prizes, and had worked as a commercial lawyer for several years before deciding to pursue writing full-time.
Speaking about her new book Mercy, Rebecca Lim said: "Mercy introduces us to a fallen archangel who has misplaced a large part of her memory and her sense of self - she doesn't remember her real name, she can't understand why she is continually "waking" to find herself, in effect, possessing a stranger's body and assuming their life, before she is shifted "into" someone else."
Mercy is her second book for Young Adult readers.
