Memphis Grizzlies Beat Sacramento Kings In Comeback Victory, Has The NBA's Best Record at 8-1
The Sacramento Kings couldn’t hold on to a big lead for the second straight game and suffered a second straight loss via a heartbreaking fashion. The Kings lost to the Memphis Grizzlies on the road, 111-110 courtesy of a buzzer-beating lay-in from Grizzlies guard Courtney Lee, who the game-winner with 0.3 seconds left in the game. It was another tough loss for Sacramento, which led by as many as 24 points earlier in the game.
The Kings dominated early carrying a 38-16 lead after the first quarter before settling for a 62-46 lead at the halftime break. Sacramento didn’t let up in the third and still held the big double-digit advantage but the Grizzlies made the major comeback in the fourth period. Memphis outscored Sacramento, 35-19 in the fourth and final quarter.
Point guard Mike Conley led his team in scoring (22 points) and assists (11) while center Marc Gasol had 20 points and 7 rebounds. Lee contributed a total of 16 points off the bench including the game-winner on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Zach Randolph added 17 markers and 8 boards for Memphis, which improved to an 8-1 win-loss record for the best record in the entire NBA.
Other bench players for Memphis also came to play on this night and actually led the comeback. Vince Carter (11 points) and Jon Leuer (8 points) hit crucial shots from behind the arc to lead the Grizz’s rally in the fourth quarter.
Sacramento, which lost to the Dallas Mavericks, 106-98 last Tuesday after leading by 24 points in the first half, just couldn’t get it done at crunch time once again wasting the good effort by Rudy Gay (25 points and 7 rebounds), DeMarcus Cousins (22 points and 12 rebounds) and Darren Collison (20 points and 5 assists).
