Partridge, a forensic investigator, appeared in the pilot episode to describe how RJ draws his signature on the wall: Three glove-covered fingers drenched with the victim's blood draw a circle clockwise. Then elements of the eyes and a smile are added to make a face, with a crying effect because the blood is still fresh upon "painting."He and Jane do not get along. Jane included his name in his book of suspects, along with the names of Oscar Ardiles, Ellis Mars, and Virgil Minelli. How close is Jane in discovering who Red John really is?

The Mentalist Season 5: Red John is "inches away"

"This is going to be a big season in terms of the Red John story," The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller told Entertainment Weekly last year. "We make a quantum leap forward. Jane and the audience will learn something incredibly important about Red John that makes his hunt inches away instead of miles," he said. Indeed, Jane gets the biggest clue ever: Red John is someone he knows.
