Meticulous showman. Good whistler. Charismatic. Clever. Psychopath. These are some of the many words mentalistas could use to describe Red John. But who is this evil monster who killed Patrick Jane's wife and daughter?

The Mentalist 6x08: Red John Revealed, Captured in Nov. 24 Episode!

Spoilers from The Mentalist Season 6, Episode 7, "The Great Red Dragon" follows: Patrick Jane has publicly announced Gale Bertram (Michael Gaston) is the serial killer known as Red John. Since then, Bertram has killed a bartender and successfully managed to escape an entire army of men in uniform supposedly out to get him. Meanwhile, Reede Smith (Drew Powell) has been acting powerless, weak, and in extreme need of CBI's protection. Still, many fans are not yet convinced the right Red John was exposed in last week's episode.

The Mentalist creator and writer Bruno Heller told The Hollywood Reporter the creative people behind the procedural drama have definitely moved the story forward this time.

"The best way to move the story forward in a way that is exciting to the audience is to move it forward much faster than they think it's going to move," he said. Still, moving fast does not mean being predictable. At least that's the hope.

"If you think you know what's happening and you think you know where it's going, you may be wrong," Heller added.

The End of Red John is Not the End of The Mentalist

For Bruno Heller, the end of Red John in Season 6, Episode 8 is not the end of The Mentalist. He hints a different flavour in the next episodes. There will be "less darkness" and "more freedom" in the post-RJ era, he said.

What can Simon Baker say about the final Red John chapter? The Aussie actor says filming the end of the Red John chapter felt "incredibly personal" to him.

"I've always been very invested in what my character does and how he reacts to his personal story, which is the Red John story," said Baker.
