Mercedes Benz posts banner year, rolls out 1000th AMG model in December
Germany's Mercedes Benz continue to enthral Australian luxury car aficionados as the carmaker rolled out its 1000th unit this year and just a day after Christmas from the global company's AMG Performance Studio.
AMG Australia Pacific director for branding and marketing Mario Spitzner hailed Mercedes Benz's sterling sales record in the region, particularly in the country, as he stressed that sales turnover for the company in 2010 has been fantastic so far.
Mercedes Benz sold the 1000th SLS AMG unit for more than $500,000, also nicknamed Gullwing and powered by the speed-packing V8 engine.
The total number of Mercedes Benz cars snatched by Australians this year account for close to six percent of overall number of passenger cars sold in the country in 2010, according to Spitzner.
He clarified though that up to 50 percent of Mercedes Benz AMG units purchased within the year belong to the C63 Class, which is priced much-lower at $150,000 and uses the 6.2 litre V8 powerhouse that fits snugly on the C-class' smaller body chassis.
Spitzner noted too that all AMG models utilise V8 engines but that would change soon as the carmaker is now finalising plans to introduce a new version of the V8, which has been packed with twin-turbocharged capability.
Mercedes said that the new V8 engine made its debut recently when the carmaker's flagship CL63 AMG model was unveiled this year.
New and much-improved AMG models are set to grace the Australian car industry next year, according to Spitzner, who added in a statement that Mercedes Benz "regards Australia as one of the most important and loyal AMG markets in the world."
Mercedes Benz has managed to lure customers from around the world on its AMG models for its uncanny fusion of style and speed as Spitzner dropped hints that Australians are bound to experience more surprises from the German carmaker in the fresh year ahead.
