Meryl Streep and Jean Dujardin bagged the awards for Best Actress and Best Actor in the recently concluded Australian Academy Of Cinema and Television Arts awards in Australia.

Meryl Streep is speculated to win yet another Oscar for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in the film "the Iron Lady." In her acceptance speech, Meryl Streep said upon accepting her award that she still had fond memories of filming the Australian movie "A Cry In The Dark," in which she played Lindy Chamberlain, who was convicted, and later cleared, of murdering her baby daughter in 1980.

Jean Dujardin, on the other hand, bested top choice George Clooney for the Best Actor Award. Dujardin played the protagonist's role in the Michel Hazanavicius' art film "The Artist." The film also won the top awards including Best Picture and Best Director.

"The Ides of March" and "Margin Call" tied for the award for Best Screenplay after the jury tied in voting process.

Streep and Dujardin were among the first winners in the new 'international' category of the ceremony, which was previously known as the AFI Awards and regarded as Australia's version of the Oscars.

The main awards ceremony - which has been renamed the AACTA awards and will honour Australian achievements in film and TV over the past year - will take place at the Sydney Opera House tonight.
