Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro Reunite After 20 years in 'The Good House'
It has been nearly 20 years since Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro starred together in a movie. The iconic screen couple will be seen pairing up again for the upcoming feature-length film adaptation of Ann Leary's bestselling book "The Good House."
Streep, 64, will play the role of New England realtor Hildy Good, while De Niro, 69, will be seen playing her old love interest Frank Getchell. The pair earlier starred together in films like "Marvin's Room" for which Streep won a Golden Globe, "Falling in Love," and 5 Academy Award winner Vietnam War drama "The Deer Hunter." "The Good House" will be Streep and De Niro's fourth film collaboration on the big screen in nearly 20 years.
FilmNation Entertainment has acquired the rights from Jane Rosenthal. The script will be written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "The Hours," Michael Cunningham. A production schedule and release date will be announced in the coming months. According to reports, the shooting will begin in eight weeks in South Africa.
"We knew right away with Jane's and Michael's demonstrated talent and Ann's bestseller that we have the opportunity to create something truly entertaining," said FilmNation's EVP Production Karen Lunder. "It is undeniable the authenticity and chemistry Meryl and Bob will offer us as they bring these characters to life."
The powerhouse performers have set high benchmarks in the past with each of their films separately and together. Casting Streep in an adaptation of bestselling work is simply putting her in the Oscar slot. And as for De Niro, this film might be another "Silver Linings Playbook".
De Niro's producing partner, Jane Rosenthal, will produce the film for their Tribeca Productions company, along with FilmNation's Aaron Ryder and Karen Lunder.
